Also known as Ground Source Heat Pumps, the term “geothermal” refers to the use of the earth’s heat (and cold) to heat and cool our homes. The relative constant temperature of the ground means that we can utilize the temperature differential between it and the air. And using a heat exchanger we can extract the energy to heat our homes. It is the most efficient heating method available. The system can be utilized with the traditional forced air heating method but radiant floors are preferred for their additional benefits. Geothermal heat pumps are one of the most expensive systems to install but operating costs will pay the difference, depending on the system, in a relatively short time (7-10years).
